A Something Beautiful Thought:

"Give me books, French wine, fruit, fine weather and a little music played out of doors by somebody I do not know."  ~  J. Keats

John Keats is a wonder of the world and I love to learn about wonderful, beautiful things.

John Keats (1795 - 1821) was an English Romantic poet, one of the main figures of the second generation of Romantic poets along with Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley, despite his work only having been in publication for four years before his death.

Not well received by critics during his life, his poems' reputation grew after his death; by the end of the 19th century he had become one of the most beloved of all English poets. He had a significant influence on a diverse range of poets and writers. Jorge Luis Borges stated that his first encounter with Keats was the most significant literary experience of his life.  (Wow!)

The poetry of Keats is characterized by sensual imagery, most notably in the series of odes. Today his poems and letters are some of the most popular and most analysed in English literature.

A Something Beautiful Thought: Brothers and Sisters

A 5-year old asked her big brother,
"What is love?"  He replied, "Love is
when you steal my chocolate from my
school pack everyday . . . and I still
keep it in the same place."

Decorate A Dreamhouse Basel Switzerland

Written By: Patricia Lynne

In my current SB Journal entry "Decorating A Dreamhouse" - - I'm imagining that I'm living in a three-story cottage house like the one at left, in the charmingly, colorful City Of Basel, Switzerland

The City of Basel Switzerland is beyond a doubt absolutely like no other!

Basel has a beautiful medieval old town center housing its historic City Hall here daily markets are held, making for a lively inner city and romantic old town. These street cafés, patisseries, sweet shops and traditional neighbourhood restaurants all provide unique opportunities to really become acquainted with the Swiss lifestyle.

Basel is a German speaking area, and being an American ex-Pat, non-German speaking,  I was pleased to learn that both English and French are spoken enough so that many people are able to communicate 'comfortably' in everyday interactions . . . and will gladly work to understand you.  Ahhhh!  My sincere gratitude!

Decorate a Dreamhouse - Mallorca Island

Written By: Patricia Lynne
Editor: Sarahjoy Crain

My dreamhouse location requires a roomy beach bag, a straw topper and a major tan; my whimsical place will be on the beautiful Island of Mallorca!

My notes for this Dreamhouse state create a design scheme consisting of white walls with much natural materials and color. This is the journey of adorning the interiors of my imaginary seaside abode.

Bit of Background:

Mallorca is the largest island in the Balearic Islands archipelago, in Spain, with a population of 869,067 covering 1,405 square miles.

People choose the Island of Mallorca (as we call it; the Spaniards call it Majorca) to find their own oasis of calmness, to escape from their otherwise hum-drum of everyday life.

But one must understand, it is with the native people of Mallorca where the real magic resides, the native people's unchanging, traditional values. Oh to be able to fit that lil' piece of sanity into a world gone crazy. If you're an expat in Mallorca, you've chosen to exchange a hectic, pressurized life for a free, alternatively-happy one in the Mediterranean.
