Decorate A Dreamhouse - English Country Cottage + Afternoon Tea Biscuits Bonus Recipe

Written By: Patricia Lynne

Editor: Sarahjoy Crain

In my current SB Journal entry "Decorating A Dreamhouse" I'm imagining I'm living in a thatched-roof, English-country cottage, like the one at left.

The cottage:

* is wonderfully comfortable and welcoming
* abounds with overstuffed sofas and chairs
* has lots of snugly woolen shawls to toss over one's shoulders at the first sign of a chill

The Gardens:

The gardens that surround English homes, including
my own cottage, are so important to the English landscape - they are their own art form. Famed author Andy Garnett has stated,

"The Italians have their opera and the French their cuisine, but for the English, it will always be the garden."

Thus in my daily life here I always have at the ready my favorite sun bonnet, sweater and basket of pruning tools.

The garden in the front of the house is slightly more subdued. The cottage's rear yard garden is less so, it is more free form.

I love excellent design and architecture derived from generations of living and learning from the land, as in, English country cottage thatched roofs. Woo-hoo!

We're going inside now, so join me as I decorate my Dreamhouse English Country Cottage.

A Something Beautiful Thought - Rumi

"Raise your words,
not your voice.
It is rain that grows flowers,
not thunder."
~ Rumi

In 2007 Rumi was described as the "most popular poet in America".

America: We Own Western Art, It's OURS

"There are few things in this world that are unique to this country.

"The Western genre as a whole and the cowboy in particular go hand in hand as symbols that represent everything that is American. The cowboy that rode across the American West helped to settle this country. He braved Indian attack, wild horses, stampedes, drowning and every other form of horrible death imaginable. The cowboy’s time came and went, but it was glorious while it lasted. While it was a period of danger and death, it was also one of loyalty and honor."  ~  Matthew Pizzolato

American Western Art is highly-valuable, collectible art, and moreover, it's entirely in rhythm with the heartbeat of America.

The Bucking Bronco Sculpture And the Presidential Oval Office:

The Oval Office, located in the West Wing of the White House, is the official office of the President of the United States.

Presidents generally decorate the office to suit their personal taste, choosing new furniture, new drapery, and designing their own oval-shaped carpet to take up most of the floor. Paintings are selected from the White House's own collection, or borrowed from museums for the president's term in office.
